Every Friday evening from 5pm – 10pm, you can catch a variety of food trucks that serve everything from Hibachi cooked dishes to sushi burritos. Located in the heart of downtown Granada Hills, C.A., the food trucks have been a staple event that offers SFV locals good eats to share with family and friends. You can find people from all walks of life. Couples, children, motorcycle clubs, and even talking parrots scatter the street of Chatsworth and Whiteoak searching for the next new flavor to devour.
One of the local favorites, King-Bob Rex, is a food truck that serve sushi burritos. It has all the flavors and goodness of a sushi roll, wrapped in a burrito size seaweed. The line can reach as far as the next food truck, but the locals say it’s worth the wait. Kristen Fleury, a local from the San Fernando Valley says she’s been coming to the food trucks just for the sushi burritos. “I once waited close to 45 minutes just to sink my teeth into the Sushi Rex.” The Sushi Rex, menu item C3, is made of chunks of fresh tuna combined with crabmeat, masago, and their homemade special sauce on the side. It’s enough to sink your teeth into and have a feeling of tremendous joy.
The Kyoto Hibachi food truck specializes in hibachi style seafood and steak. The hibachi is a traditional Japanese cooking device that is cylindrical or boxed, designed to hold burning coals. The truck is basically a rolling barbecue grill, with the option to serve the delectable dishes into burrito form. Stuffed with rice, shrimp, steak, chicken or all of the above, the hibachi burritos are a definite must have for the curious palate. Just follow your nose to the sweet smell of grilled cuisine and if you’re lucky, they may even have the lobster tail fries on deck.
Not everyone welcomes the food trucks with open arms. Some say it’s a nuisance while others say it sabotages other local eateries. Every Friday evening, the parking gets taken over, trash gets thrown on the sidewalk, and jaywalkers are just waiting to get hit. Local business owners say these trucks aren’t even from Granada Hills. They invade our streets and steal our customers and no one, not even the city council, does anything about it.
Whether or not the food trucks are a nuisance, they provide a good, wholesome activity for locals every Friday evening. From sushi burritos to lobster rolls, the Granada Hills food trucks will continue to invade people’s appetites with fresh new culinary cuisines. They are here to stay and will continue to stimulate the palate.
